LYS Football’s Purpose is to introduce young players to the game of football and to start developing the fundamentals they will need to play at the junior high and high school levels. This will be done in a climate of good sportsmanship and with respect for others.

LYS Football is a member of Whatcom County Youth Football League. This is NOT a recreational football league. Playing time is not required to be equal, however, the league does have a minimum play rule. We do not want to discourage anyone from playing, but we want both parents and players to be aware this is a competitive league.

Children are very passionate about their football. They love basketball and baseball, etc., but it is their passion for football that will get a boy or girl to put on all of that heavy gear and spend two hours a night, two to four nights a week practicing and Saturday games in the heat or rain and love every minute of it. They learn discipline, sportsmanship and camaraderie. Few other sports require the dedication and perseverance that football does. Kids learn a lot of life’s lessons on the football field: teamwork, tolerance, disappointment, patience, planning, organization - the list is endless. You can see them grow in character and spirit as the season progresses.

We know our system is not perfect and that it is impossible to please everyone. However, we play by the rules and encourage good sportsmanship. We choose the best coaches available, and want our coaches always to treat our players with respect and use a positive, encouraging approach. The teams generally practice 4 days a week before school starts and 2 days a week with games on Saturdays after school starts. It is a big time commitment but usually comes with a big pay off in attitude, self-confidence and an understanding of the value of teamwork.

Last season 130 youth participated in our program. We had three teams at the junior level and three at the senior level. We expect to operate at that level again in 2018. We hope your son or daughter will become part of LYS - Lynden Youth Football for 2018.

LYS wishes to thank all of the players, coaches, parents, volunteers and community supporters for helping to make this program a success.

We are looking forward to the 2023 season.
